Perinatal therapy in Portland

A quiet place to land when the waiting feels heavy

Therapy for people facing the strain of fertility treatment or the loss of a pregnancy, and for the partners beside them. In person in Portland, or by video in Oregon.

Room for the part nobody else asks about

I'm Dr. Cheryl Oglesby, a licensed clinical psychologist in Oregon. I see adults through fertility treatment, pregnancy loss and the long stretches of waiting in between, and partners who want to be part of it.

My approach draws on attachment-based therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness. I'm not here to fix your grief or to tell you what to decide. I'm here to make room for it, at your pace.

  • Room to say it

A place to name what is hard without being steered toward a bright side.

  • Curiosity

Exploring your story with openness, not judgment.

  • Your pace

You decide how fast we go and what we leave for another day.

Our Approach

Therapy goes better when you feel held, not fixed. My practice is built on warmth, careful listening and trust that you already know a good deal about what you need.

    Warmth

A room where you can let your guard down, whatever the week has held.

  • Wide view of a man on a black sofa talking with a woman in red in a bright white office

    Attunement

I listen to your words and to what sits underneath them.

  • Two women talk across a round coffee table in a bright loft with a grey sofa

    Trust

Trust is earned slowly here, and never taken for granted.

How I can support you

The methods I use, each explained before we try it.

  • Fertility stress

Room for the cycles, the waiting and the decisions, and what they do to your days.

  • Pregnancy and infant loss

Time and space for grief, in the way and at the speed it comes.

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy

Practical tools for the worry that loops at night, without dismissing why it is there.

  • Mindfulness skills

Ways to steady yourself in the hard moments of a waiting room or a due date.

  • Sessions with a partner

A shared place to talk when each of you carries this differently.

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy

Making room for painful feelings while you decide what matters next.

Ways we can work together

Sessions shaped around where you are in the process.

Individual sessions

One-to-one time for the stress of trying to conceive and of waiting for news: the decisions, the body, the relationships around you.

Sessions with a partner

Sessions of 80 minutes for the two of you, when you grieve or hope at different speeds.

Worry in pregnancy

Support for the fear that can come with a new pregnancy after a loss or a long wait.

After a pregnancy loss

Gentle sessions for grief that is hard to explain to others. We never rush it.

YOUR PATH

From a first message to your own pace

A clear, gentle way in, designed to feel natural and not clinical.

  • 01

    A first message

You write in a few words. I reply within a few working days and we find a time for a first session.

  • 02

    First session

We talk about what brought you here and what you hope for. You decide at the end whether to continue.

  • 03

    Regular sessions

We meet at a rhythm that suits you, often weekly at first. I explain each tool before we try it.

  • 04

    Spacing out

When you are ready, we meet less often. The door stays open if you want to return.

Words about the room

  • “I was braced to be told what to feel. Instead Dr. Oglesby let the quiet sit, and I didn't have to explain myself twice.”

    Marcia W.
  • “We had been in the waiting for so long that we stopped talking about anything else. The room gave us somewhere to say it out loud, together.”

    Mauricio V.
  • “I wasn't sure a man in my position belonged in this kind of room. I was welcome from the first minute, and nobody hurried me.”

    Lamont H.
  • “It felt like somewhere I could set everything down. The pace was mine, and so were the silences.”

    Ruhi G.
  • “I appreciated that every session started by asking what I needed that day, and that it was fine if the answer was nothing.”

    Rami Z.
